History
The question of constructing a municipal electric light plant at the Pumping Station was decided affirmatively by the Town on May 27, 1901, and the enabling Act of legislation was accepted by a vote of 205 Yes, 90 No, on September 23, 1901. On April 18, 1903, the town voted 307 Yes, 68 No, to build the plant and issue the necessary notes. On Wednesday night, November 18, 1903, the dynamo was started and the streets throughout the Town were brilliantly illuminated. Taken from "Ipswich In The Massachusetts Bay Colony", by Thomas F. Waters

Today the Power Plant with its 9 diesel engines produces 9.5 megawatts of electricity.
